The Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) and English Placement Test (EPT) are mandatory exams required before a student can enroll at California State University Channel Islands. The exams are used to determine in which Mathematics and English courses you will be placed when you register for classes. For more information about ELM/EPT testing, please visit the ELM/EPT FAQs page.
There are exemptions to the ELM/EPT tests, based on scores earned on other appropriate tests such as the CSU's Early Assessment Program (EAP) tests in English and Mathematics, the SAT, and the ACT. The click on the links below for more information:
If you are not exempt from the ELM or the EPT, you must take the exam. Although the EPT is not used to place students in English courses at CSUCI, the Cal State system requires that students who wish to register for classes either be exempt or must take the EPT. Those who do not take the appropriate exam(s) will not be allowed to register for classes. For a detailed explanation of ELM/EPT testing, please visit www.ets.org/csu.
