If visiting the CSU Channel Islands campus is not within your current budget but you’d like to expose your K-8th grade students to the college exploration process, then consider hosting a CI Rep Visit. The CI Rep Visit program is designed to bring a representative from CSU Channel Islands in to your classroom. Your students will be given a pre- and post-questionnaire to gauge their knowledge of the college preparation process prior to experiencing the “How to Get to College” presentation and after the presentation as well to see what they learned. The presentation covers the following topics:
K-5th Grade Students:
6th-8th Grade Students:
Following the post-questionnaire, students will have a chance to earn a CI giveaway by answering questions relevant to the material presented. Each student will receive a California State University How to Get to College poster and each class will be given a CI pennant to hang in their classroom.
Due to high demand, elementary and middle school administrators are encouraged to book their visit as soon as possible. This program runs on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are accepted year-round, and CI Rep Visits will occur Monday, August 30, 2010 through Thursday, December 16, 2010 and Monday, January 24, 2011 through Thursday, May 19, 2011. CI Rep Visits are conducted Monday or Wednesday, one time per week. No visits will be conducted on campus closure dates or during spring recess from March 21-26, 2011. Reservations can be made for as many as 90 students in one presentation and as many as three presentations per day. Each presentation lasts one period from start to finish.
While University Outreach staff work with you to schedule presentations, school site organizers are asked to provide and set up a projector and screen. Presentations are typically scheduled over a block of time, so it is vital that classrooms are prepared at the designated time. Additionally, in an effort to make continual improvements to our program, your feedback is requested. At the end of your CI Rep Visit each teacher will be given an evaluation. Please return your completed evaluation to your CI representative by the end of the presentation.
To schedule a CI Rep Visit, please adhere to the following registration process:
Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the CI Rep Visit overview, availability and expectations.

Another exciting opportunity to host CI college students on your campus is through a COMM-Unity 101 school site visit. COMM-Unity 101 exists to provide 6th-8th grade students the opportunity to engage in a 30-minute classroom presentation about “How to Get to College,” followed by a student panel. The unique aspect of this program is that each presentation is delivered by a team of CI students as their final project for their Communication 101 course. This means that each presentation given is unique and delivered by a different group of CI students. The topics covered include:
In addition, participating classes will be presented with a certificate of completion and have an opportunity to sign the document symbolizing their commitment to pursue higher education.
This unique program operates each semester in early December and late April. Reservations are accepted year-round; however, final details are confirmed within the first month of each semester. COMM-Unity 101 School Site Visits will take place Monday, December 6 – Thursday, December 9, 2010. Spring 2011 dates are to be determined. Reservations must be made for one classroom and up to three classrooms. Each presentation lasts one period from start to finish.
